Optimize a PDF for the web

A linearized PDF shows its first page right away while the rest downloads — ideal for documents published on a website.

Your files never leave your browser. Nothing is uploaded, anywhere.

Questions

What is it for?
An ordinary PDF only displays once fully downloaded. Linearized, its pages come in order with an index up front, so a browser or Adobe Reader shows the first page at once and fetches the others as needed.
And for a PDF sent by email?
It makes no difference: an attachment arrives whole before it opens. The optimization helps PDFs read online.
Does the content change?
No: pages, text, images, links and forms stay the same. Only the file’s internal layout changes; “Pack objects” often makes it a little smaller too.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The optimization is done by qpdf, compiled to run in your browser.
