Password-protect a PDF
Encrypt a PDF with AES-256 so it needs a password to open. You can also choose what it allows once it’s open.
Your files never leave your browser. Nothing is uploaded, anywhere.

How it works
- Drop in your PDF.
- Choose a password, and what the document allows.
- Save the protected copy — and keep the password somewhere safe.
Questions
- Which encryption is used?
- AES-256, the strongest the PDF format provides, which every recent reader can open.
- What if I forget the password?
- The document is lost: nobody, us included, can open it again. We never see the password — it doesn’t leave your browser.
- Are the restrictions (printing, copying) reliable?
- Honest readers respect them, but they don’t protect the content: anyone who can open the file can get round them. Only the open password truly encrypts.
- Is my file uploaded anywhere?
- No. Everything happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
